Current Development Projects

ProjectGroundwater sources, flow trajectories, and fluxes in the complex transboundary Wadi Araba aquifers.

Funding agency: USAID
Time period: 2024-2027
Country: Jordan
Project descriptionThe study aims to identify flow patterns and delineate groundwater flow paths in the transboundary Arava-Araba aquifer to support sustainable joint management of the region’s sole water resource. It involves developing a solution framework for optimizing water and solute mass balance in a transient flow system, revealing 3D groundwater flow paths, assessing hydraulic connectivity between sub-aquifers, and evaluating the impact of agricultural activities on groundwater quality. Additionally, it explores spatial and temporal water quality distribution, measures recharge and groundwater flows, and proposes management scenarios for coordinated groundwater production, considering varying salinity levels and interconnected aquifers, to ensure sustainable resource utilization.

ProjectOlive Mill Wastewater (OMWW) Transformation From Pollutant To Water Resource, Sun Protection Paste And Compost.

Funding agency: USAID
Time period: 2024-2027
Country: Jordan
Project description:The study focuses on separating olive mill wastewater (OMWW) into its main components—polyphenols, cellulose, and liquid residues—using a simple and cost-effective method. These streams are then utilized to produce valuable products, including a polyphenol-based sunscreen paste, lignocellulose compost, and liquid waste residues evaluated for their feasibility and sustainability in irrigating olive trees in local soil, promoting resource efficiency and environmental sustainability.
